Free Leaf: a 60-second thought journal for iPhone
Some thoughts you do not need to keep. Write one down at the end of the day, choose how it leaves, and let it go.
What Free Leaf does
Free Leaf is a journalling app built around a single daily entry rather than an empty page. A different question every day, specific enough to actually answer tonight — and a choice about whether the words survive it.
Write it, weigh it, let it go
Answer the day's question, say how heavy the thought feels, then choose how it leaves — carried off by wind, washed away by water, burned by fire, or buried in earth.
Proof, not vibes
You weigh the thought a second time afterwards. Free Leaf measures how much lighter releasing actually left you, in your own numbers — not a guess at your mood from the keywords you typed.
Keep the words, or destroy them
Choose to keep a thought and it lives in your archive. Choose not to, and the words are destroyed on release — only the date and how it felt are kept. Most journalling apps quietly keep everything forever.
A tree that grows from letting go
Every release adds a leaf, coloured by how the thought felt. The tree changes with the season and the hour, six species unlock as you keep showing up, and the sky above moves through the real day.
A streak that forgives a bad day
One grace day per week, automatically. Miss a day after five good weeks and nothing resets, because a bad day is exactly when you need this most.
No words? Just breathe
Three breathing patterns, one to five minutes, with no writing required at all.
Widget, weekly reflection and Face ID
Your tree, your streak and today's question on the home screen. A weekly summary of what you carried and how much lighter you left. Face ID lock for a shared phone.
Everything exportable
Full search across everything you chose to keep, and a plain-text export of all of it whenever you want.

Questions about Free Leaf
Is Free Leaf free?
Yes. Free Leaf is free to download and use from the App Store.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No. There is no sign-up and no cloud. Everything you write stays on the device, and the app works with no signal.
Are my journal entries really deleted?
If you choose not to keep a thought, the words are destroyed when you release it. Only the date and how the thought felt are retained, so your tree and streak still count the entry.
Can I lock the app?
Yes. Face ID lock keeps your entries private on a shared phone.
Can I get my writing out of the app?
Yes. Everything you chose to keep can be exported as plain text at any time, and you can delete all of it whenever you want.
Is there a home screen widget?
Yes — it shows your tree, your current streak and today's question.
Is this a replacement for therapy?
No. Free Leaf is a place to write, not a substitute for professional care. If you are in crisis, please contact a local crisis line or a professional.
