Privacy Policy

Effective 22 August 2026

Karma is designed to keep your reflections private. This policy describes exactly what stays on your device, what leaves it, and why.

1. What Stays on Your Device

Your 30-day journey, completed days, streaks, journal entries and every Karma Oracle consultation are stored only on your iPhone. They are not uploaded to our servers, not backed up to any account we control, and not used to train any model. We cannot read them.

We do not require a login. We do not collect your name, email address or contact details.

2. The Karma Oracle

The Oracle can run in three ways, and the app always shows you which one answered above and below every reading.

  • On-device — On supported iPhones the reading is generated entirely on your device using Apple's built-in language model. Nothing you write leaves your phone.
  • Cloud — If your iPhone cannot run the on-device model, the text you type is sent over an encrypted connection to Google's Gemini API to generate the reading. That text is processed by Google under their terms and is not stored by us. See the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Offline guide — Written responses bundled with the app. No AI, no network.

You can prevent any network use by the Oracle entirely: Karma → You → Karma Oracle → Guidance engine → “On-device only”. The app will then use its built-in offline guide instead of ever contacting the network.

3. Advertising (Third-Party SDK)

Karma is free and is funded by advertising. The app includes the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) and Google's User Messaging Platform.

To serve ads, Google may collect:

  • Your device's advertising identifier (IDFA)
  • Ad interaction data, such as impressions and taps
  • Coarse location inferred from your IP address
  • Crash and performance diagnostics

This data is handled by Google, not by us, and is not linked to your identity by this app. Google's practices are described at business.safety.google/adsprivacy.

Your control over this:

  • iOS asks your permission before any tracking. Choosing “Ask App Not to Track” prevents the use of your advertising identifier.
  • In the EEA, UK and Switzerland we ask for consent before serving personalised ads. You can change or withdraw that consent at any time in Karma → You → Privacy → Ad privacy settings.
  • Your journey, journal and Oracle history are never shared with advertisers.

4. Health Data (Optional)

If you allow it, Karma writes the meditation and breathing practices you complete to Apple Health as mindful minutes. This stays on your device, under your control in the Health app, and we never receive it. Declining costs you nothing — the practice still counts inside Karma.

5. Notifications

Daily reminders are scheduled locally on your device. No notification data is sent to a server, and we cannot see whether you complete a day.

6. Children

Karma is rated 12+ and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

7. Your Choices, in Short

  • Turn off ad tracking: iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking
  • Change or withdraw ad consent: Karma → You → Privacy → Ad privacy settings
  • Stop all network use by the Oracle: Karma → You → Karma Oracle → Guidance engine → “On-device only”
  • Delete everything: Karma → You → Danger zone → Reset journey, or delete the app, which removes all local data

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. Changes take effect when published here, and the effective date above will be updated.
