Privacy Policy
Vaani is an offline English to Indian regional languages dictionary and phrasebook. Because the entire dictionary ships inside the app, almost nothing about how you use it ever leaves your device. This policy explains exactly what stays local and what does not.
1. Your Dictionary Activity Stays on Your Device
Every word, phrase, example sentence and transliteration is bundled into the app itself and stored in a local database on first launch. As a result:
- Your searches are never sent to us or to anyone else.
- Your saved favourites and bookmarks are stored only on your device.
- Which languages you have unlocked is recorded only on your device.
- Looking up words, browsing the phrasebook and using favourites all work with no internet connection at all.
We operate no server for this app and have no ability to see your dictionary activity.
2. No Personal Identification
- No account registration or login is required.
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number or contacts.
- We do not ask for or access your photos, files, microphone or precise location.
3. Pronunciation
Pronunciation uses the speech synthesiser already built into your device. The text is spoken on-device and is not uploaded anywhere.
4. Third-Party Ads (AdMob)
To keep Vaani free, we use Google AdMob to show a banner ad and optional rewarded ads. AdMob may collect and use certain data for advertising purposes, including:
- Device identifiers (IDFA/IDFV).
- Ad interaction data (clicks and impressions).
- General (coarse) location for regional ad relevance.
This is the only part of the app that uses the internet. Read more: Google’s Privacy Policy.
5. Tracking and Your Choice
On iOS, Vaani shows Apple’s “Allow Tracking” (App Tracking Transparency) prompt before any ad loads. Your answer is respected:
- If you decline, ads still appear but are non-personalised, and no advertising identifier is used to track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
- Declining never restricts the app. Search, the phrasebook, favourites and pronunciation all continue to work exactly the same.
You can change this decision at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
6. Unlocking Languages
Hindi is available immediately and free. Each additional language unlocks permanently after you choose to watch one rewarded ad. This is a choice, never a requirement — the app is fully usable without unlocking anything further. Because all content is already bundled in the app, unlocking downloads nothing and records nothing beyond a local note that the language is unlocked. There are no purchases and no payment information is ever collected.
7. Children
Vaani is a general-audience dictionary and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
