What Vaani does

Vaani puts a dictionary and a situational phrasebook on your phone with no network dependency at all. Search, phrasebook, favourites and pronunciation all work in airplane mode.

Ten languages, each in its own script

Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Malayalam and Urdu — including full right-to-left support for Urdu.

Fully offline

The entire dictionary, phrasebook and search index live on the device. No Wi-Fi, no cellular data, no network errors on a train or in a low-signal area.

Audio pronunciation

Hear words and phrases spoken with your device's on-device voices, so you can check your accent before you need it.

A phrasebook organised by situation

Greetings, Travel, Emergency, Shopping, Food, Health, Numbers, Family and Small Talk — so you find the line you need at the moment you need it.

Transliteration and example sentences

Can't read the script? Every entry carries an easy Latin-script transliteration, plus an example sentence in both languages for context.

Word of the Day and favourites

Build vocabulary daily and bookmark entries across every unlocked language, reachable in a single tap.

Fair unlocks, no subscription

Hindi is free from the moment you download. Each other language unlocks permanently on your device after one short rewarded video — no subscriptions and no hidden paywalls.

Who it is for

  • Travellers moving between Indian states who need a phrase fast and offline
  • Anyone speaking with family in a language they can understand better than they speak
  • Students and new arrivals building everyday vocabulary
  • Anyone who wants a dictionary that keeps working when the signal does not

Questions about Vaani

Does Vaani work without internet?

Yes. Every word, phrase, example sentence and transliteration is bundled inside the app. Search, the phrasebook, favourites and pronunciation all work in airplane mode. The internet is only used to load ads.

Which languages are included?

Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Malayalam and Urdu.

How do I unlock the other languages?

Hindi is free immediately. Each of the other nine unlocks permanently after you watch one rewarded video — tap any language marked “Watch ad” on the Dictionary tab.

Is there a subscription?

No. There are no subscriptions and no hidden paywalls.

Do I lose unlocked languages if I reinstall?

Yes. Unlocks and favourites are stored on your device rather than on a server, so reinstalling or switching devices resets them. Unlocking again is free.

Why is there no speaker icon for a language?

Pronunciation uses the voices built into your device. If a language's voice is not installed, the icon is hidden. On iOS you can add voices under Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.

Do I need an account?

No. Vaani requires no registration, login, email or payment details.
